Fair History
  • 1934 - The first Fair was held in Winchester at the Episcopal Church Ground and was sponsored by the 4-H.
  • 19?? - The Fair was moved to the Stephens City School Building where it was sponsored by the 4-H and FFA.
  • 1948 - Designated as the First Annual Frederick County Agricultural Fair, the event was held at the Winchester Armory. The Fair was held annually at this location through 1965.
  • 1966-1968 - No Fair.
  • 1969-1971 - The Fair was reactivated as the Frederick County Youth Fair and held at the Farmers Livestock Exchange.
  • 1972 - The Fair moved to the Stonewall Ruritan Grounds.
  • 1973 - The Fair Association purchased 22 acres of land of the Charles Anderson Estate, from Charles W. Orndoff, Sr.
  • 1973-Present - The Fair has been held on the 22 acres owned by the Fair Association and on .the 19 acres owned by the Stonewall Ruritan Club.
  • 1974 - The first two buildings were constructed by the Frederick County FFA Chapters and the County 4-H Clubs.
  • 1975 - Two more buildings were added with the help of the Lee Whitacre family and the Gainesboro Ruritan Club.
  • 1976 - A fully equipped kitchen and bathrooms were installed in the Whitacre Building. Other improvements included permanent lighting and a livestock show ring erected by the Round Hill Ruritan Club.
  • 1977 - A cattle wash rack was constructed by the Round Hill Ruritan Club.
  • 1978 - Chain link fence was erected along the entrance and front side of the Fairgrounds.
  • 1979 - The Poultry Building was constructed with primary funds furnished by the R. E. Aylor FFA Chapter.
  • 1980 - The livestock show ring was enlarged and permanent lighting was added. Some additional kitchen equipment was also purchased.
  • 1981 - The Gainesboro Ruritan Club erected a 4O foot addition to the cattle barn. The Frederick County 4-H Clubs and Extension Homemakers constructed a picnic shelter. The cattle wash rack was enlarged and the interior of the 4-H barn was revamped.
  • 1982 - A new entrance was constructed at the south end of the fairgrounds.
  • 1983 - Chain link fence erected to use new entrance.
  • 1984 - Lighting installed on new entrance.
  • 1987 - Construction completed on Office Building.
  • 1989 - South lawn stage completed.
  • 1990 - Sheep barn completed.
  • 1991 - Show Arena constructed.
  • 1999 - Constructed Livestock Club Shelter 2000 Constructed Dressing Room
