Stockman's Contest

A comprehensive educational contest for Frederick County youth interested in improving their knowledge of the livestock industry.

When: 2:00 pm Fair Thursday

Sponsors: High School FFA Chapters of Frederick County

General Rules and Regulations

  1. The contest is open to all Frederick County youth in these divisions:
    • Junior: those contestants between the ages of 9 and 13 on the day of the contest
    • Senior: those contestants between the ages of 14 and 19 on the day of the contest
  2. The contest will include:
    1. A written test of 25 multiple choice questions about the total livestock industry. (l00 points)
    2. Judging one class each of beef, sheep, swine, hay and retail cuts of meat worth 50 points each. (250 points)
    3. Identification of: (200 points)
      • 10 pieces of equipment (5 points ea.)
      • 10 feeds of livestock (5 points ea.)
      • 10 breeds of livestock (5 points ea.)
      • 10 retail cuts of meat (5 points ea.)
  3. High individuals in both divisions will be scored on the basis of 550 possible points. Ties will be broken on the test score (1) and the total identification score (2) if a tie persists.
  4. Contest officials will have the final say on all contest decisions.
  5. Prizes are awarded as follows for each division. Additionally, ribbons will be awarded to the top ten individuals in each division.
    • 1st place individual - $20.00
    • 2nd place individual - $15.00
    • 3rd place individual - $10.00
    • 4th place individual - $ 5.00
